Crash games in Nigeria: licensing, payments and safety

Legal status
Since a November 2024 Supreme Court ruling, gaming in Nigeria is regulated mainly by the states (for example Lagos), with the NLRC's role limited to the FCT. Check the operator holds a licence for your state.
Legal status is summarised from the sources listed below. It is not legal advice.
Short answer: crash games such as Aviator can be played legally in Nigeria with an operator licensed for your state. In November 2024 the Supreme Court held that the National Assembly lacked power to legislate on lotteries and gaming, which left regulation mainly with the states. The National Lottery Act now applies only in the FCT. Lagos, for example, licenses operators through the Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority (LSLGA). This is general information, not legal advice.
How to check an operator
- Find the licence details in the site footer: which state authority issued it?
- Check that authority’s own website or register.
- Be wary of sites that show only an offshore licence, and of links shared in WhatsApp or Telegram groups.
Paying in naira
Most Nigerian-facing operators accept local methods. See OPay and PalmPay deposits and Paystack deposits. Never pay “agents” through personal accounts.
Example in naira
With a ₦10,000 session bankroll and ₦200 bets (2%), cashing out at 1.50x, you win about 65% of rounds (₦100 profit each) and lose ₦200 on the rest. The average loss is about 3% of everything staked: over 100 rounds (₦20,000 staked), roughly ₦600. See bankroll management.
